Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 31 Florida State women’s tennis team hosts the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday, January 28, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla. The Seminoles (0-1) are looking to rebound from a season-opening loss to the Baylor Bears (1-0) while the Dolphins are going for their second win of the season.
Baylor Recap… In theseason opener on Sunday, January 23, FSU dropped a tough contest to Baylor by tally of 5-2. After a weather related delay, the Seminoles started off the afternoon with singles, winning one of six. The Tribe earned wins at the one and three doubles positions against the Bears, courtesy of junior Lindsay Deason (Fort Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) and the doubles tandem of senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) and freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham). The loss was the first in program history with FSU taking ten consecutive matches prior to Sunday.
Deason’s Domination… Lindsay Deason scored a point in singles play and contributed to the doubles point in a win by default to help FSU in the loss to Baylor. In singles play, Deason held her opponent, Daniela Covello, scoreless in a two-set win, 6-0, 6-0. Deason also pulled out a victory by default in doubles play with partner senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) helping FSU take the doubles point.
Winning Pair… Doubles partners, Tantee and Marobela, kept their opponents off the board, beating Baylor’s Iva Mihaylova and Zuzana Krchnakova, 8-0. This victory was Tantee’s 19th career doubles win, after a career high 13 wins in the 2002-2003 season and only two wins in the 2003-2004 season. The victory was the first of rookie Marobela’s stint at FSU.
Weather Delays Play… Due to bad weather, the match time was changed to 11:30 a.m. for Baylor. The weather also forced the contest against Georgia Southern to be rescheduled for April 16, 2005.
Looking Ahead… After the match against the Dolphins, FSU returns to the court with a match against UCF on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 12:00 p.m.
