Tallahassee, Fla. – After a long day of tennis, the women of Florida State came out with a prosperous outing in both singles and doubles competition at the Seminole Invitational. In all, Florida State finished the day 13-2 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center with dominant wins all the way around.

“It was a long day for everyone involved, but it was a good, competitive day, too,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “It was exciting to have a number of the men and women competing in our home facility. I’m pretty excited about how we started the weekend, the girls played well. I noticed a few things we need to work on, but I know the girls will rise to the challenge and improve as the weekend goes on.”

Florida State finished the day 6-1 in singles with the home court advantage. Of the Seminoles’ six winners, five allowed their opponents to score three points or less. Freshman Katie Rybakova continued her impressive inaugural semester, moving to 8-2 for the fall season in singles. Fellow newcomer Federica Suess also added another win to her résumé, giving her a 9-3 fall record.

In doubles, the Seminoles recorded seven wins in two rounds of play. Rybakova and junior Ania Rynarzewska paired up to take down Kansas’ team of Adeeva/Horvath 8-3 and USF’s Bejikova/Zok 8-5 to push their undefeated streak to five.

Suess and Georgia Tech’s Noelle Hickey joined forces to upset the Gold Bracket’s second-seeded team of Castillo/Pazo from FIU 8-4 in the pair’s second match of the day. Both teams, along with sophomores Lauren Macfarlane and Jessica Wente will play in the doubles finals tomorrow afternoon.

Competition continues tomorrow morning with singles starting at 8:00 a.m. and doubles at 5:30 p.m.
