Tallahassee – The Florida State women’s tennis team (6-0) continued their unbeaten streak with a road win against the UAB Blazers, 7-0. The Seminoles have blanked three opponents this season.

Rookie Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and doubles partner junior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) won the first doubles match of the day, 8-4, over the Blazers Femke de Boer and Annemieke Elsholz. At number two, newcomer Lindsay Deason (St. Petersburg, FL/Boca Raton Prep) and junior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, CA/Futures) secured the doubles point besting UAB’s Marritt Jansma and Nadia Dellarciprete, 8-3. Veteran senior doubles partners Christina Denny (Canton, Ohio/Bradenton Academy) and Brooke Cordell (Soddy Daisy, TN/Tennessee) won at the three position to sweep the doubles area. The pair bested Julia von Samson and Samrin Tanzeem.

With the doubles point already won, all the Seminoles needed to do was take three matches for the win. In a fashion that has become typical of the women’s tennis team this season, Florida State picked up all six matches starting with a win by Tribe leader Anca Dumitrescu (Bucharest, Romania/ VCU). The senior bested de Boer in two sets winning 6-2, 6-1.

At the number two position, Moldovan defeated Elsholz 6-3, 6-2 and at the three spot Denny topped Jansma 6-2, 6-3. Deason won 6-3, 6-3 over von Samson and Clarke posted a victory at number five against Dellarciprete, 6-4, 6-0.

The most exciting match of the day came down to the number six position with FSU’s Alina Mihailescu (Constanta, Romania/Mircea cel Batran) and the Blazers’ Tanzeem. Mihailescu took the first set 6-4 but fought a losing fight in the second stanza losing 6-4. Despite the second set win, Mihailescu prevailed posting a final score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

FSU will head to Tuscaloosa, AL to face Alabama, Sunday afternoon beginning at noon. The Noles then head home before traveling to Gainesville, FL to take on the No. 1 Gators.
