March 19, 2000

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. — The 22nd-ranked Florida State Lady Seminoles won
their second consecutive ACC match to begin the ACC season 2-0. FSU downed
40th-ranked Virginia by a score of 7-2 to improve to 12-3 overall. The loss
drops the Lady Cavaliers to 9-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Florida State won four of six singles matches and all three doubles
matches to beat the Cavaliers for the sixth straight time. The Lady
Seminoles got wins from their top two players, 85th-ranked Alida Gallovits at
No. 1 singles and junior Nanette Duxin at No. 2 singles, to start the match
Sunday.
FSU senior Kia Asberg notched her 12th win in a row by defeating UVA’s
Henriette Williams in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. The
comeback win for Asberg keeps her winning streak alive and puts Asberg just
three matches away from tying the record of 15 that she and teammate Marina
Raic set last year. Raic was the other Lady Seminole to win her singles
match Sunday. Raic defeated Virginia?s Jennifer Tuchband for her 10th win of
the dual match season.

The FSU doubles combination of senior Ali Weber and sophomore Jessica
Balbuena extended their winning streak to eight matches against the
Cavaliers. For the second consecutive match, Florida State won all three
doubles matches. In the 2000 dual match season, FSU has won 27 of 39 doubles
matches.

Florida State will travel to North Carolina this weekend to face the
second-ranked team in the country Wake Forest on Saturday and North Carolina
State on Sunday. It will be the second time this season FSU will have faced
a team that was ranked second in the nation by the ITA. Florida State lost
to then No. 2 Florida on February 9th in Gainesville, 5-1.
