TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fourth-ranked Florida State (39-13, 19-8) concludes its 2014 regular season schedule with a three-game home series against Duke (31-21, 15-12) beginning Thursday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. Friday’s game is also at 6:00 p.m., followed by Saturday’s game at 1:00 p.m. All three games will air on ESPN3.
The Seminoles own a record of 71-19 all-time against the Blue Devils and are 39-7 when playing Duke at home. Florida State has won 10 in a row against Duke and 29 of the last 32 games in the series.
Florida State has swept the last eight three-game series from Duke at home with the Blue Devils last win in Tallahassee coming on May 5, 1994 (5-4). In fact, the 1994 regular season meeting between the two schools is the only series victory for the Blue Devils since Florida State joined the ACC in 1992.
Last year, the Seminoles swept the Blue Devils in Tallahassee outscoring Duke 32-10. Offensively, FSU had eight different players register two or more hits combined in the series. Five Seminoles homered during the series, driving in a total of eight runs. Defensively, the Seminoles did not commit an error, while the FSU pitching staff struck out 26 Blue Devil hitters in 27 innings of work.
Entering the final week of the regular season, both schools have clinched a berth in the ACC Tournament. Florida State has won the Atlantic Division and will be seeded no lower than second, while Duke currently sits third in the Coastal Division and fourth in the conference standings.
The Blue Devils rebounded after being swept by Miami last weekend in Durham with a win over Richmond in their final home game of the regular season. The Seminoles are coming off a mid-week loss to UCF on Tuesday. FSU and Duke rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the ACC in team pitching.
