KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Seminoles.com) – Sixth-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf ended its first two rounds of the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate in sixth place, shooting 13-over (581) on Saturday at the Club at Irish Creek. Senior Rowin Caron is tied for seventh among all competitors after shooting 1-under (141) through the first two rounds, shooting even par in the first round (71) and a 70 in the second.
Caron has found his stroke as of late, coming off a 10th-place finish at the competitive Valspar Collegiate.
Caron was at his best on par 3 holes, shooting an average score of 2.88 that was the second-best among all players in the field. Playing eight par 3 holes on the day, he registered three birdies along with two bogeys and three pars. In his second round, Caron finished with consecutive birdies at the par-3 eighth hole as well as the par-4 ninth.
Senior Hank Lebioda finished his first two rounds with a 1-over 143, shooting 72 in the first round and 71 in the second. In the first round, he double bogeyed the par-5 14th hole, followed by consecutive bogeys on the 15th and 16th. However, he recovered strong with consecutive birdies on the first and second holes, followed by another birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. Lebioda added four birdies in his second round.
Junior Josh Lee was also steady for the Seminoles, shooting a 73 and a 74 in the first and second rounds, respectively. His 5-over score is tied for 25th.
Redshirt junior Cristobal Del Solar is at 8-over after scores of 74 and 76, while Bennett Baker is 16-over.
Kennesaw State is first in the field at 1-under, while Wake Forest is second at even-par. VCU (+5), UNCW (+9) and North Carolina (+11) round out the top five.
FSU returns with an 8:30 a.m. shot-gun start on Sunday to finish the tournament.
