The FSU women’s tennis team took to the courts once again at the Omni Hotels South Regional Tournament. FSU’s Christina Denny has continued to play well advancing into the final round of competition. The Regionals, which began Friday, Oct. 26 are hosted by the University of South Alabama and will conclude on Monday, Oct. 29.
On a cold and windy morning Florida State’s sophomore standout Christina Denny took the court for her quarterfinals match against Mason Miller of Georgia tech. The atmosphere would warm up fast however as both players offered a classic tennis spectacle. Denny would take the first set 6-3, and it seemed as if her victory would be a fast one. Miller managed to fight back and win the second set 6-4 and in the third set the Lady Seminole would take the victory 6-2.
After just one hour of rest Denny was once again on the court against semifinals opponent Becca Baum of Alabama. Denny came back from a 3-love deficit in the first set to take the win 7-5. Baum won the second set 6-3 and again the match would be decided by a third set. Although tiring from over four hours of play Denny remained focused and broke her opponents service at 4-3 to win the set 6-4.
With two great victories on the day the FSU sophomore will meet Maria Soerensen of Georgia State tomorrow in the finals.
