TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The ITA announced its preseason Top 100
women’s singles rankings this week and Florida State was well represented.
FSU sophomore Alida Gallovits jumped from being ranked 92nd at the end of
last year to this year’s preseason No. 68. Gallovits and the women’s
tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for this weekend’s Roberta
Gallovits played last year as FSU’s No. 1 singles player, compiling
a record of 16-12 and leading the Lady Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament.
Gallovits, who hails from Timisoara, Romania, also played No. 1 doubles for
FSU. She teamed with junior Nanette Duxin, and the two spent time in the
ITA rankings throughout the season on their way to winning 13 matches.
Last season, Florida State won the third most dual matches in school
history with 21 and made their fourth consecutive appearance into the NCAA
This weekend Gallovits and the team will compete against some of
the region’s top players in the Roberta Allison Classic. Junior Natalie
Carratala will not play due to an injury sustained this summer and junior
Nanette Duxin and sophomore Marina Raic will only play singles. Action
begins on Friday, September 17 and concludes on Sunday. Following the
Roberta Allison Classic, Florida State will host the Lady Seminole Fall
Classic, October 15-17, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the FSU
