TALLAHASSEE, FL–Florida State’s Jarrod Owen and Alex Herrera of the men’s tennis team took on the 4th-seeded tandem of Brandon Hawk and Robert Kendrick this evening in the first round of the USTA Tallahassee Tennis Challenger at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The young Seminoles played a good match but came up short against their more experienced opponents, dropping the match in straight sets, 7-6, 6-0.
Owen and Herrera, who received a wildcard into the doubles main draw, started off well in the first set, as they broke their opponents serve to take the lead. However, Hawk and Kendrick got the break back, and would eventually move on to win the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6. Hawk and Kendrick would break serve three times in the second set and cruised to a 6-0 win, thereby securing a place in tomorrow’s quarter final round.
