TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State senior Joey Marshburn has been named ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week following his performance at the 2002 Georgia Invitational last weekend. Marshburn, a native of Marietta, Ga., posted two top ACC individual times this past weekend in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles.
Marshburn finished first in the 50-free with an ACC-best and NCAA B-cut time of 20.31. His time of 44.96 in the 100-yard freestyle, also a top ACC time, placed him second at the Invite and narrowly missed B-cut standards.
In addition to his individual performances, Marshburn helped Florida State finish second in a field of five teams at the invitational through his efforts in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:20.28) and the 400-free relay (2:58.70). With their times in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays, the Seminoles now lead the ACC in both events and have provisionally qualified for the 2003 NCAA Championships.
