Freshman Michael Averett won both the 100 and 200-yard freestyles as the Florida State University men’s swimming and diving team defeated Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech 140-97, Friday evening in Atlanta. The Seminoles (5-0, 2-0 ACC) were victorious in eight of the meet’s 13 events to remain undefeated on the season.


Averett turned in a season best time for FSU in the 200 free with a mark of 1:42.54 and a personal best in the 100 (46.69). Junior Nnamnse won his third-straight 50 free, touching the wall at 21.01. Sophomore Matt Wheeler turned in another FSU season best time, winning the 200 butterfly at 1:54.23. FSU’s final wins of the evening came in the 400 medley relay (3:23.60) and the 400 free relay (3:10.16).


In diving action, the Seminoles once again swept both the one and three-meter events. On the three-meter, freshman Louie Gagnet, who set a school record of 363.85 in the event two weeks ago, won with a score of 348.38 and later won the one-meter (290.48). Sophomore Josh Edelman, last season’s ACC Diver of the Year, placed second in the one (267.68) and three-meter event (240.45) for the Seminoles.


The Seminoles return to action tomorrow when they travel to South Carolina to take on conference opponent Clemson at 10 a.m.
