FSU’s Track And Field Squads Finish Competition At Kroger Invitational

The Florida State men’s and women’s track and field squads finished competition at the Virginia Tech Kroger Invitational. The men’s team finished with 14 top ten victories, including one first place finish. The Lady Noles took home five top ten finishes out of six events.


The men’s squad started the morning off with two top 30 performances by Anesu Mushonga and Douglas Slade in the 60-meter dash. Mushonga, a freshman placed 29th, with senior Slade placing 30th. Sophomore Kolby Jones, who was also entered in the 60meter dash placed 44th with a time 7.1. The men’s next event was the 200 Meter Dash. Kolby Jones placed first for the Noles finishing 17th with a time of 22.31. Right behind Kolby were teammates Douglas, with a time of 22.43, Joe Allen and Mushonga. Bringing in a top ten finish was Seminole junior Wade Brett with a seventh place finish in the 800-meter run. Brett finished with a time of 1:54.0. Running with Brett were teammates Mike Jennings, who placed 25th and Sean Campbell who finished 31st. Competing in the 60 meter High Hurdles and finishing in 10th place was sophomore Danyne Brown, and in 15th place for the Seminoles came Matt Mason with a time of 8.2. In the 4×400 meter relay FSU placed seventh with a time of 3:19.58. Coming in with a first place finish for the Noles was Shawn Brown. Brown, a junior, finished in first place in the high jump, while teammate Christian Bland placed fifth.


The men’s squad continued their success throughout the day when Jeff Atkinson placed second in the pole vault event. Other Seminoles also had strong showings in the pole event, with Jason Dean placing fourth and Pat Gergerich finishing eighth. Senior Joe Allen stepped it up again for the Noles finishing third in the long jump event. Matt Mason, also competing in the long jump placed 20th, while fellow Seminole Kolby Jones finished the event in 22nd place. Allen once again shined in the triple jump placing fourth in competition, while Mario Lowe followed right behind Allen placing fifth. Freshman Dorian Scott placed fifth for the Noles in the Shot Put and junior BJ Linnenbrink placed 22nd. In the final event of the day, the weight throw, Linnenbrink placed second marking at 18.62, with Josh Bowling, a junior placing seventh.


The women’s squad started the final morning off with senior Teresa Bundy placing eighth in the 60-meter dash, while teammate Kim Jones placed 29th. The women had a strong showing in the pole vault event with three top 15 finishes. Senior Lindsay Osborn placed third in the event, with fellow teammates Megan Robbins placing seventh and Nikki Allen placing 13th. Sophomore Kim Jones the lone finisher for the Noles in the long jump placed 13th at the 5.73m. With two events left Senior Teresa Bundy took a fourth place finish in the triple jump at the 12.61m. mark, with teammate Kim Jones finishing in 12th place. For the final event of the day Seminoles Nicole Scott and Sara White competed in the weight throw. Scott, a junior, finished in seventh place, while White, a senior, finished in 13th place.


The men’s and women’s squads will now return back to Tallahassee, Fla., to train for their next test of the season, the Gator Invitational.
