FSU’s Women’s Tennis Players In Preseason Rankings

Sept. 12, 2000

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State women’s tennis player Alida
Gallovits has been ranked No. 39 in the Collegiate Tennis Rankings for
NCAA
Division I women’s singles while she and Nanette Duxin are ranked No. 40
for women’s doubles, in preseason rankings released by the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association on Monday.

Gallovits, a junior from Timisoara, Romania, is the top returning
player for the Lady Seminoles this season. With a 25-13 record last
season, she ranked second on the team in victories, including a 16-10 dual
match record playing at No. 1 singles in the spring. Gallovits has
defeated seven ranked players during her two-year career, including four
in
1999-2000.

“I expected Alida to have a nice ranking because she had such a
great season last year,” FSU Head Coach Lise Gregory said. “Based on the
year she had, this is well-deserved. She worked hard this summer and I
have already seen a difference. She’s pretty determined and is really
focused on getting better. She’s set some high goals for herself and is
prepared to do the work to achieve them.”

Gallovits and senior Nanette Duxin, who hails from Montevideo,
Uruguay, played No. 1 doubles for FSU most of last season and went 13-8.
The duo finished strong, winning eight of their last 11 matches.

“Nanette has been a very consistent player for us,” Gregory said.
“She and Alida have played together for three years and have gotten a lot
of good wins and are deserving of the ranking. Hopefully this season will
be a reward for what Nanette has done throughout her career.”

The Lady Seminoles will begin competition later this month, when
they host the Lady Seminole Classic, September 29-October 1.
