TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Jensen Beach High School setter Sarah Wickstrom, who inked her National Letter of Intent with the Florida State University volleyball team in the fall, is one of 80 finalists for the Andi Collins Award. Wickstrom will join the Seminoles in the fall 2011.
The award recognizes the best setter in the nation at the prep level. Wickstrom ended her impressive high school career by leading her team to the state regional final, averaging 8.4 assists and 1.8 kills per set.
“Sarah has continued to really improve over the last two years,” said head coach Chris Poole. “We are very proud of her and we also believe she is one of the better setters in the country. With a senior and junior setter this fall, it was very important for us to look to the future and Sarah provides the experience and potential that we were looking for.”
Wickstrom was the Florida Dairy Farmers 4A Player of the Year in 2009 when her team won its second state title in a three-year span. She also guided the Falcons to a state title in 2007, and a regional finals appearance in 2008.
Following her junior season, Wickstrom earned first-team all-state honors as well as a nomination for the Gatorade Player of the Year. The three-time all-state player possesses a desirable 5-foot-11 frame and will add great depth to a group of setters that already features sophomore Duygu Duzceler and junior Patricia Figueiredo, who will be rising juniors and seniors in the fall, respectively.
