Tallahassee, FL –
Due to travel conflicts, the match between No. 12 FSU and No. 7 Penn State has been moved from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday, August 31. The game will be the second of the season for both teams and is one of the best opening weekend match-ups in the nation this weekend.
Penn State has won five straight Big Ten titles, been to eight straight NCAA Tournaments and has been to the College Cup in two of the last four seasons. The Nittany Lions are led by SoccerBuzz preseason Player of the Year Johanna Lohman who scored both goals in the US U-21’s 2-1 Nordic Cup win in the title game.
Before the Tribe can worry about Penn State, they must first face No. 19 USC in their toughest season-opener since defeating sixth-ranked Florida to open the 2000 season. The Lady Trojans have been to five straight NCAA Tournaments and have been to the second round in four of those trips. Last year, USC was eliminated form the tourney by third-ranked UCLA by a slim 1-0 score. The game is scheduled for Friday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m.
The Seminoles have never lost at home on a Friday night under head coach Patrick Baker (12-0-2) including a perfect 4-0 record versus ranked teams. Florida State has set five of their top 10 attendances at Friday night games including a school record 1,603 versus Florida last year. Both games this weekend are at home and there is no admission charge.
