Game times for the Athens Regional of the NCAA Softball Tournament were announced on Monday (May 15) with second-seeded Florida State University taking on number three seed Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. on Friday. Ticket information was also released.
All-tournament passes for the 2006 NCAA Softball Regional at Georgia are currently on sale with chairback seats $30 and general admission seats $24. Passes can be purchased at the Georgia Ticket Office (877-542-1231) or on www.georgiadogs.com. Single day tickets will be available on the day of the competition – $10 for chairback seats, $8 for general admission, and $3 for ages seven and below. Groups of 20 or more can purchase tickets for $5 a person.
The winner of the Florida State-Coast Carolina game will face the winner of the Georgia-Georgia Southern contest at noon on Saturday. The Bulldogs are the No. 11 seed nationally. The opening round losers will play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game. Another team will be eliminated at 5 p.m. Saturday with one or two games, if necessary, Sunday to crown the regional champion. The winner of FSU’s region will face the winner of the Arizona State regional in the super regional, May 26-28.
Florida State earned its 19th-trip to the postseason, and seventh in a row, on Sunday. The Seminoles have won seven of their last 10 games, including a run to the title game of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. FSU secured its 24th 40-win season over the weekend with a 6-0 triumph over No. 22 North Carolina State during the league summit. A record five ACC schools – Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech – were selected for the tournament with all five receiving number two seeds.
