THE 2003 ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WILL BE AIRED ON THE SUNSHINE NETWORK AND FOX SPORTS SOUTH AT 4:30 P.M. TODAY


>>>The Seminoles and Cavaliers have played for the ACC title six times before this year with FSU winning five of those match-ups.


>>>The seven title games meetings between FSU and UVA are the most between any two schools in ACC history.


>>>Of the four meetings between FSU and Virginia, three of the games, including today’s final, have been televised.


>>>The Seminoles set ACC Tournament records for home runs in a game (3) and runs in an inning (7) against UVA in the third game of the 2003 ACC Tournament.


>>>The Tribe has now upped its winning streak to 26 games, which is the longest streak of any team in college softball in 2003.


>>>The seven title games meetings between FSU and UVA are the most between any two schools in ACC history.


>>>The last time FSU and Virginia met for the ACC Title was 2000 and FSU not only had to beat the Cavaliers twice but due to weather they had to beat Maryland first just to move into the title game. Behind the pitching of tournament MVP Leslie Malerich, FSU downed Maryland 3-0 and then took both games from Virginia 3-1 and 2-0. That wasn’t the first time FSU took two from Virginia in one day to win the ACC Title. It also happened in the 1993 season.

>>>With FSU’s three wins this year, the Tribe has now won 11 in a row over the Cavaliers and 16 of the last 17 meetings.


>>>When Florida State enters Championship Sunday needing just one win for the crown, they have never lost in five tries. The Seminoles entered the 1992, 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999 titles games needing just one win to wrap up the Championship and the did each time.


>>>Florida State has outscored Virginia 52-16 in their 14 title game meetings including this year’s 10-1 win. That wasn’t the most lopsided win though. In the 1998 ACC Tournament FSU beat the Cavaliers 10-0.


>>>Despite playing one another more times that any two teams in the ACC Tournament and the ACC Title game, 2003 marked the first time the teams met in the ACC Tournament since 2000. The teams have played in seven ACC Tourneys.
