TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball is headed overseas once again for its foreign tour trip. The 2017 edition features an awe-inspiring 10-day getaway to both Spain and Italy from Aug. 6-16.
The Seminoles will be going global for a team-building journey, getting the opportunity to play three games against excellent opponents while enjoying all there is to offer in the beautiful cities of Rome, Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Sicily and Catania. In Spain, FSU will spend quality time in Barcelona as well as the hometown of current redshirt freshman Iho Lopez – Girona, Spain.
Florida State’s three games will be against an Italian All-Star Team in Naples, the Sicily All-Stars and at the Barcelona All-Stars.
Plenty of sight-seeing is planned, which includes exploring the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and other famous landmarks in Rome. Authentic Italian cuisine will be sampled throughout, mixed in with tours of other areas including the Vatican City. A boat tour along the famous Amalfi Coast is one of many adventures planned.
The country of Spain has been a familiar location for Florida State’s coaches over the years, with assistant coach Brooke Wyckoff enjoying a successful professional career in the country for many seasons. The recent Spanish pipeline of talented players including Olympians Leonor Rodriguez and Leticia Romero as well as Maria Conde and Lopez continue to help expand Florida State’s global brand.
In Barcelona, the Seminoles will tour the Olympic Stadium, FC Barcelona Stadium and experience other well-known areas of the 1992 Olympic host city that was the centerpiece for the “Dream Team.” Later in the trip, Lopez will give her teammates and coaches a glimpse into her upbringing and culture in Girona, ending the trip on a solid note.
The 2017 Foreign Tour will be documented heavily on social media with pictures and videos on Florida State Women’s Basketball’s Instagram account (fsu_wbasketball). Periodic updates will also be posted on the team’s Twitter (@fsuwbb) and Facebook (/FSUWomensBasketball) accounts.
Florida State Women’s Basketball’s first day of official practice is slated for Sunday, Oct. 1.
