TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team will host its annual Garnet vs. Gold scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Tully Gymnasium beginning at 2 p.m. Following the scrimmage Seminole fans will have the opportunity to meet the players and get autographs on the 2016 schedule poster. The scrimmage is set to take place exactly one week before the Seminoles head to Orlando to face UCF at 1 p.m. in the 2016 season opener.
On Friday afternoon, the 12 members of the squad will be divided into two teams in preparation for Saturday’s scrimmage. The two teams will then compete in multiple 15-point games.
“The girls have been putting in a lot of hard work at practice over the last two weeks,” said head coach Chris Poole. “Saturday gives the fans their first chance to see the latest edition of the team and our players the opportunity to play in front of a crowd for the first time this season. It will also help us set rotations for the season opener next weekend.
“Our plans are to play multiple sets of 15 points, so that we can try a lot of different line-ups,” added Poole. “We are very thin with our depth in hitters this year and have some players currently limited or not playing. By playing 15 point sets, we can play many more but make switches often and rest those players that need more rest.”
FSU will make its official home debut on Sept. 8 when it squares off against Baylor as part of the Home2 Suites by Hilton-Tallahassee Seminole Tournament.
Florida State, ranked 17th in the preseason AVCA poll, will play seven matches against five teams currently ranked in the AVCA Top 25. The first will be against No. 16 Texas A&M on Sept. 1, followed by Minnesota (3rd, Sept. 3), Florida (10th, Sept. 14), North Carolina (19th, Oct. 7 / Nov. 6) and Louisville (23rd, Sept. 25 / Oct. 28). All of those aforementioned programs, along with Miami, who the Seminoles face on Sept. 23 and Oct. 19, reached the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
