Oct. 12, 2000

Tallahassee, FL –
The Florida State baseball team held it’s
annual Garnet & Gold game tonight in front of 719 fans at Dick Howser
Stadium with the Garnet taking an 8-2 victory. All donations and
concession sales from the game went directly to the Dick Howser Center
for Children.

Left fielder Scott Boyd and second baseman Scott Toole each had
a two-run single to pace the Garnet offensively. Boyd led the game with
three RBI as he also drew a bases loaded walk prior to the single.
Shortstop Pichi Balet and catcher Aaron Cheesman added RBI-doubles while
third baseman Justin McClain knocked in another run with a single.

Freshman right-hander Marc LaMacchia started for the Garnet and
worked three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. RHP Justin Lord
followed LaMacchia with three scoreless innings of his own, giving up
four hits and striking out two.

The Gold’s two runs (unearned) came in the final inning of the
seven-inning game when second baseman Bryan Zech ripped a two-run triple
to right field. The two-out triple followed back-to-back errors by the
Garnet.

McClain (2-4) and right fielder Blair McCaleb (2-3) were the
only players with more than one hit.

Former Seminoles will take part in another Homecoming tradition
on Saturday with the alumni game at 2:00 p.m. There is no charge for
admission on Saturday.

The 2001 baseball season opens on Saturday, February 3rd when
Western Kentucky visits Tallahassee.
