TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Women’s Tennis Team fell to the No.2 Florida Gators today, 7-0 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex to move to 5-4 on the season.

“I don’t think that all of the scores reflect just how close some of the matches really were today,” Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “We just didn’t play the big points very well when we had opportunities in those closer games.”

The Seminoles were swept in doubles, with the No. 13 team of Allie Will and Sofie Oyen beating juniors Carolina De los Santos and Francesca Segarelli, 8-2 on court one. On court two, junior Amy Sargeant and Mia Vriens fell to Joanna Mather and Carolina Hitimana, 8-2. The team of sophomore Ruth Seaborne and freshman Leyla Erkan fell to Alexandra Cercone and Olivia Janowicz, 8-0.

In singles, Seaborne dropped her match to No.39 Oyen 6-2, 6-1 on court five. On court four, De Los Santos fell to No. 49 Cercone, 6-1, 6-2.

Finishing within minutes of each other, Erkan fell to No.23 Lauren Embree, 6-2, 6-2, while Segarelli dropped her match to No.1 Will, 6-1, 6-2 on court one. Vriens would be the last to finish as she lost to No.18 Mather, 6-3, 6-1 on court three.

“I think with Leyla and Fran playing in the one and two spots, we competed very well there,” Hyde said. “They had a lot of opportunities and most of their games were deuce games, but they just didn’t execute when we had they had a lead or had game points. The same was the case with Mia. Mia is still finding her stride on court and is still getting comfortable competing after sitting out for the last few months. Once things start rolling for her, I expect that she can do some great things this semester.”

The Seminoles will head out west for a match with Pepperdine on March 7 before returning back to the east coast to continue ACC play and face Clemson on March 9 in Clemson, S.C. Check back to Seminoles.com and Twitter (FSU_Wtennis) for more updates.
