I did not know Devaughn, but after reading all the other thoughts & prayers it’s obvious to see that he was a great person. As tough of a time as this must be for his family and friends, please take comfort in knowing your the lucky ones. You all had the chance to know, love, and be loved by this wonderful person.

My prayers are with the Darling’s family and friends.

I am posting this on behalf of Fort Bend Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas, the Darling brother’s alumnus. Our entire school would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the Darling family as they go through this tragedy. Devaughn, you will always be a Bulldog to us and we miss you greatly. Devard, always keep your head up and know that all our prayers are with you. I believe that Devaughn is in a better place where he can watch over us and root on his Noles just like he would as if he were here.

I feel really bad and wish that I could help in any way. But,all I can do is pray for his family and send them my love. I didn’t know #53 but I was a seminole so he was family because;I work and attend school here. And another reason I’m feeling so much pain is beacause; I have two boys and their very close in age and their very close at doing everything together.

With Love,

I pray that the Lord will give you, the family and friends, strength in your time of grievance. Nothing anyone can say will ease the pain, but my prayers and thoughts are with you!

I went to school with Devaughn- He was a very special person not only to me- but also to everyone who knew him. He had a unique way of touching people’s lives with his extraordinary leadership and outgoing personality. He was the most motivated person I have ever met, and I will always remember him for his great accomplishments, and his special nature. He will be missed- yet never forgotten.

As a former schoolmate and friend of Devaughn and Devard, I really felt devestated and shocked at the news that Devaughn had passed. He was a wonderful, funny, sweet and talented person and we will all miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Darling family, especially Devard, the other half of the “Bahamian Sensation.” I wish Devard luck in his future plans and hope the best for the Darling family.

To the Darling Family,
My name is Brent Barth and I am a cadet/football player at the Virginia Military Institute, I wanted to say that I am sorry for the recent loss in your family. It truly must be a devasting blow, but he is in a better place. I am an English major and I have a short poem to read to you…
Why mourns the people thus for me, since I in heavens dwell shall till eternity? Let not so many tears fall from my friends; Into your bosomes all your love again, And your affections whiles I remain Mongst you, but you must refrain.
Bear up your hearts, dear hearts, when thoughts of me run in your minds, with this the time will be, and every hours brings it on apace, dear friends, when we for ever shall imbrace. Farewell but for a season then, farewell; Our next Embraces shall the rest excell. Rest Happy, children, Friends, and tender wife, Death but begins the godly’s happy Life.

He is in a better place, a place of happiness, you must believe this. You shall see hime soon, but not yet, not yet.

Devaughn- I didn’t get to know you that well but I will never forget you. After walking out of class asking you how you were feeling after going through another gruelling day of mats. You’d smile to me and say, I’m all right. And we’d pass by. You affected my life in a positive way being in group B, you pushed me and I pushed you. I wish nothing but the best for you and know you are doing just fine where you are right now. I will miss you personally because I felt that bond although it may not have showed as much. Take care and now you have to push me harder to help me accept what has happened. God Bless.

M.S. Sugar Land, TX
Prayers and thoughts go out to a former teammate and the family from high school who has graced everyone’s life he touched in high school and again in his short college life. Truely a model person, he will be missed by all at Austin High School, as well as those in Florida. May the grace of God heal Devard and all those that were close to Devaughn.

As my heart hurts right now, I cannot help but look back and smile at Devaughn’s memory and all the wonderful times him and I shared together. I am priviledged to be able to say he was my friend. Without knowing it, Devaughn had the ability to sincerely touch my heart, along with others, and make the better person which lies deep inside us shine. He will shine in my heart always. I belive there are “Angels Among Us” and there’s no doubt he’s one of these angels. Devard-You’re in my prayers. I love you both.

Candace Davidson, Austin, TX

You have a wonderful supportive team that will be here to help you, and a God that will not forsake you. Let the Lord comfort you, and beleive that everything happens for a reason. Be strong for Devaughn, and continue on in his memory. He will always be your guardian angel!
May God Bless you and your family.

Elisa, Gainesville, Florida
My prayers and sympathy go out to the family, it is never easy to have a loved one pass away. I lost a brother four years ago and it still is not easy. However you do learn to heal and life continues on, but not without the memories. That is something that not even death can take from us, that is our memories and love for the ones we have lost. Keep Devaughn’s memories alive in your heart and he will never be far from you. This too will pass.
With all my heart and prayers,

Monicha Belford Seminole, Florida
I never got the pleasure of meeting Devaughn, but I have a feeling that he was a very special person that brought joy to everyone he knew.

To The Darling Family: Always remember that God does not bestow on a person more than they can bear. Now, more than ever, is a time to cherish the memories you have and the happiness that Devaughn brought to your life. He is now in Heaven above, brought home to the creator, resting peacefully in the eyes of the Lord. He is watching over all of you as you make your journeys in life and he will be there at the gates of Heaven to welcome you home, to be with him once again.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, as are the rest of the students and faculty of Florida State University.

God Bless,
Monicha Belford

I have known Devaughn and his brother, Devard for over 5 years. He was a guy who always made people feel glad that they know him. More than just a football player Devaughn was a friend. I saw him before days before the Orange Bowl not knowing that it would be the last time I would see him alive. But he is still here in our hearts, those that love and care for him. I want to let Devard know that we are here for him and that Devaughn would want to keep on going. To the whole Darling family you are in my prayers. God Bless.
