Kate (Tallahassee, FL)
I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, now I’m free
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too will miss,

Be not burdened with time of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now, He set me free.

You are in my prayers Devaughn!

Christina (FSU)

I would like to send my condolences out to his mother and father, his twin brother Devard, his older brother Dennis and other immediate family for this is truly a hard time and I wish that they cope and God protect over them and comforts them. For he was a great kid especially a good friend when I was growing up, he was always there and treated everyone like a best friend

It is so tragic, the loss of one so young. I pray for comfort for his family and his FSU family. Let’s dedicate this next year to winning another National Championship for Devaughn. I would love to see the #53 on all helmets next year. May God bless the family.

Mike Maffeo (Tampa, Florida)

Our whole family will keep the Darling family in our prayers. Sometimes the Lord does things that we don’t understand and this is one of them. Somehow in time we will understand. We also will pray for the future safety of all our Athletes, not just our Football players.

Remember, we could have lost some of our Baseball players this year (Near bus accident in California). God bless the players and the coaches.

A tragedy like this is difficult to understand, but know that Devaughn is in a better place. To his family and friends, all of us in the Seminole family pray for you. To some, Devaughn was first and foremost our player, for whom we rooted and cheered. For you, though, he was son, brother, friend. This was his most important role and one in which he will be missed forever. May God comfort you and give you peace.

My thoughts and prayer to the Darling family and FSU, although I was an opponent on the field, we were brothren off the field as a student-athlete. God Bless. “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.” Proverbs 12:25

Shaneka Griffin ( Houston,Texas)

I send my deepest simpathy to the family and friends of Devaughn Darling. And for his twin brother, GOD is going to work everything out for you so take care of yourself and let GOD handle your battles in life and on the field also. Even though I don’t go to FSU I just want to give this poem out to the family, friends and the FSU Football team & FSU Family.

COME WITH ME

The Lord saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put his arms around you
And whispered,”Come with me.”

With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
A beautiful smile at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.

It’s lonesome here without you
We miss you so each day,
Our lives aren’t the same
Since you went away.

When days are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper,
“Cheer up and carry on.”

Each time we see your picture,
You sem to smile and say,
“Don’t cry, I’m in God’s keeping,
We’ll met again someday.”

Kevin Davis (Ft. Myers, Florida)

As a former FSU student and die hard Seminole, my thoughts and prayers go out to all the memeber s of the FSU Athletics Department. To Devard and his family, God bless you all. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

David Hughes Tampa, Fl

I just wanted to say as a long time and huge Seminoles supporter, that any player that has ever played on this team has shown incredible character and leadership. Devaughn Darling was no different. His hustle and effort on special teams may have gone unnoticed to most, but not all. He would have most certainly continued the great tradition of Seminole linebackers, and it is a tragedy he never got his chance. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and the team.

Mike Agiannidis (Memphis, TN)
