To Devaughn’s dear parents, brother Devard, and the rest his family – We offer our most tender, heartfelt sympathy. We mourn the loss of a vibrant young man with the limitless potential of youth. We know and feel from our own experiences the empty ache of missing a part of yourself. Words can be somewhat comforting, but only time and the reconciliation you are able to make in your hearts will ease the burden of such pain. Colleen and I deal with the life and death of children and youth daily in our professions. Families vary widely in the ability to overcome tragedy. We pray fervently for the strength and eventual peace you will need to rely on while traveling the path that has been thrust upon you. We pray our God’s balm of strength, peace, and healing for each of you. Our Sincerest Condolences, Mark and Colleen Ward

I was not very close to Devaughn, but his radiant personality could not go ignorerd. His drive for achievement was truly inspiring. My life and many others were unknowingly touched. We all come from God and that is where we will return. My prayers go out to his entire family in their time of grief.

I am not a student at FSU, but I have following the FSU football team for about 10 years. This is one of the greatest losses for FSU not as an athlete but a young man who had a bright future. I want the Darling family to know that Devaughn is in a better place and that they should pray for strength to get through the loss of their loved one. You have my deepest sympathy.

KATHY BARBER, ENV. HLTH & SAFETY FSU, TALLAHASSEE
AS A STAFF MEMBER AT FSU FOR THE PAST 21 YEARS,
I’VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING A LOT OF STUDENT
ATHLETES INCLUDING DEVAUGHAN AND DEVARD DARLING.
THEY ARE VERY POLITE YOUNG MEN. DEVAUGHAN WAS
FULL OF LIFE WITH A LOT OF HEART AND A JOY FOR LIFE.
EVERYTIME I HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE AND TALK WITH HIM
HE ALWAYS HAD A GREAT BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE. I USE TO
TELL HIM ”YOUR SMILE BRIGHTENINGS UP MY DAY” AND HE
WOULD SAY ”THANK-YOU MAM”. AFTER HEARING OF HIS
DEATH, I WAS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, HURT, SHOCKED,
AND WONDERING WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO A YOUNG MAN
SO FULL OF LIFE AND JOY ALWAYS WITH A BIG SMILE.
ONLY GOD KNOWS THE REASON NOT ME. EVEN THOUGH
IT HURTS NOW NOT SEEING HIM OR HIS SMILE, I CAN ONLY
PICTURE DEVAUGHAN STANDING IN FRONT OF HIS
HEAVENLY FATHER WITH THAT BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE.
THANK-YOU DEVAUGHAN FOR THE FEW TIMES WE GOT TO
SHARE TOGETHER AND FOR THE BIG SMILE FOR WHICH
YOU BRIGHTENED UP MY DAY. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU
NOW REST IN PIECE.
AS FOR DEVARD AND THE FAMILY, I PRAY THAT GOD WILL
HEAL YOU AND COMFORT YOU IN YOUR DIFFICULT TIME.
TO COACH BOWDEN, THE REST OF THE COACHES, AND
TEAMMATES, MAY GOD HELP YOU THROUGH YOUR DIFFICULT
TIMES. NEVER FORGET THE TIME YOU’VE SHARED WITH
DEVAUGHAN NOR WILL I FORGET HIM. I WISH ALL OF YOU
HOPE AND COMFORT ALWAYS.

WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY,
KATHY BARBER – FSU

I just want to let the Darling family, and the football and sports families at FSU, know how much they are in my families thoughts and prayers at this difficult time in everyone’s life. We can all point fingers at who’s to blame, if we so choose, but just remember this: God doesn’t take us before it’s our time. If He hadn’t wanted Devaughn to join him up in Heaven, he would still be with us today. We may never know why this happened, but just trust in God and He will be there for you always.

I just pray that the Florida
State football team and family come together to mourn the loss of a great football player. I keep up with football and know of alot of people who knew him and played against him high school. They all said he was a great person and excelled in everything he did. Lets not mourn the life of Devaughn Darling but celebrate the great life he experienced in his eighteen years. Were all sympathetic to the Florida State Family who has lost a great friend.

I just want to send my deepest condolences to the Darling family, As well as the entire student body and staff at Florida State University. To the Darling family I offer my sympathy and prayers in the loss of their son and brother. Devard, my prayer to you is that you know Jesus as savior and know that the Lord will supply your needs. My twin grandsons were your foes on fields of competition when Austin played Elkins the last few years. Knowing their bond to each other I can truly understand your loss. May God be with you.

Although hard to say, I ask God to open his arms and allow you to float into heavens gates, for you to enjoy your new home that everyone else waits to embrace. Another earthlyangel has gone home to rest and I pray that family and friends are able to ease their minds knowing that he is in good hands.
MAY GOD BLESS

Sincerely,

Devaughn Darling was the most dedicatd person I have ever known. He was not only a great athlete, but his dedication to his friends and family is an example and inspiration to all who knew him.
He was, as is Devard, a leader by example. I could watch the older and younger players on the AHS team look to “The Twins” to see what or how they responded in situations. You knew that in was always done in class and respect for others. I know our youngest son (Pat)always idolized you two.
Devard, our prayers and best wishes are extended to you and your family. We have always considered you and Devaughn part of our family due to your friendship with Greg Jr..
We will always cherish our memories of Devaughn and his character, work ethic, and love of family.

To Devard and the rest of the Darling family, my deepest sympathies and prayers are with you at this time. Devaughn was a perfect example to the athletes at Austin High of what a student athlete should be. I have had the oppurtunity to know the twins and they are truly the BEST! All the DAWGS, students, athletes, teachers and coaches, will forever remember Devaughn.
May God Bless You Devard, and see you through with strength. Much love Always!

I know I speak for the rest of the Austin football family when I say that Devaughn was clearly inspirational. I was two grades under Devaughn and although I played on a different team(he was on Varsity) I always felt that I could come up to him if I needed help on anything. He passed away doing what he loved to do. He was a leader and a friend to everyone. God bless the Darling family especially Devard. I will always remember him as a great leader on and off the field but also as a friend.
My Condolences,
Kris Calimbas #62

Memories Keep Those We Love
Close to Us Forever

Although words seem to say so little,
I hope they help in some small way
to ease the sense of loss
that you’re experiencing today.

Hold fast to your memories,
to all of the cherished moments
of the past,
to the blessings and the laughter,
the joys and the celebrations,
the sorrow and the tears.
They all add up to a treasure
of fond yesterdays
that you shared and spent together,
and they keep the one you loved
close to you in spirit and thought.

The special moments
and memories in your life
will never change.
They will always be in your heart,
today and forevermore.

Our Prayers will be with your family

My heart and prayers goes out to the Darling family. As a former schoolmate and friend of Devaughn and Devard, the twins was one of a kind, and will always be remembered. By thier athleticism, charm, friendliness and inspirational ways, the twins touch many people and didnt realize it. They was loved by everyone. It is a tragity to know that even the best must go. Devaughn is in a better place now, but spiritually in our hearts. Devard and Stacy…stay strong and keep looking forward for your brother, because one day yall will meet again. “When you feel like your at the end of the rope, tie a knot and hold on”.

Remember you always,

God Bless

Being a twin I understand the powerful connection that can bind between two souls. Andy and I were both dear friends to Devaughn throughout the past five years. We will miss you and keep you in our hearts forever. Devard, we love you, you are going to make it, I promise. Our condolenses to the Darling family. You created a man with a golden heart.
