TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Head coach Dwayne Hultquist announced today that Andy Gerst is the new volunteer assistant coach for the men’s tennis program at Florida State. Along with his responsibilities with the team, he will also be the Camp Coordinator for Seminole High Performance Tennis Camps working with associate coach Nick Crowell.
“I’m very excited to join the Seminoles this season,” said Gerst. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of our elite program and helping our guys move closer to achieving our goals.”
Gerst has played on the ATP Tour the past two years and looks to use that experience with the team. The past season Gerst worked with the No. 38 Cal Poly women’s tennis team as the assistant coach. The Redondo Beach, Calif., native played two years at Washington before finishing his career at Cal Poly where he played No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles his junior and senior years.
“Andy’s going to bring in a great set of skills as far as what he’s accomplished as a player,” said Hultquist. “He’s going to bring a really strong playing background having played No. 1 on his college team and also playing on the professional tour where he picked up ATP points. Clearly he really loves the game and is passionate about playing. I think that is something that is great for our team for it to rub off. This is a good opportunity for him to come here and get into the college coaching and get up on the coaching ranks.”
