Before the Florida State University women’s golf team left to play their first round at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M (Sept. 11-13) they stopped in and played a game of “What I did During My Summer Vacation” with seminoles.com. Some of what they had to say was very interesting…
What’s the best course you played during the summer of 2011?
Laure Castelain: The best course I played was in the Netherlands where we played the European Women’s Championship.
Malin Jansson: The best course I played this summer was without a doubt St Andrews Old course. It was amazing to play a course with so much history behind it as well as a course that is highly respected by the best golf players in the world.
Andrea Kaelin: The best course I played this summer was The Wanderers Club in Wellington, Florida.
Mary Beth Ramsay: The best course I played was Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin, Fla.
Maria Salinas: The best course I played this summer was the Asia Golf Club at Lima, Peru.
Hannah Thomson: The best course I played this summer was the Lake karrinyup country club course in Karrinyup,
What was your best single round and tournament score of the summer?
Laure Castelain: My best single round score was a two under par at the European Championship.
Malin Jansson: My best single round during this summer was a minus two under par.
Andrea Kaelin: I only played in one qualifier over summer and I shot 76. My best score playing casually over summer was a 70.
Carlton Kuhlo: My best round of the summer was a 72.
Alex Milan: My best single round scored was a 68 at a tournament at Saddlebrook Resort.
Mary Beth Ramsay: the best single round I shot this past summer was a 71 at Kelly Plantation.
Maria Salinas: My best single round was playing with my dad and his friend, a 66. The best tournament round was 70 at a tournament at my home course.
Hannah Thomson: I shot scores of 74 and 73 Western Australian state amateur.
What was the weirdest thing you ate this summer?
Malin Jansson: I do not think I ate anything weird this summer. I did however get to try some new different European food during some tournaments in Finland, Scotland and The Netherlands.
Carlton Kuhlo: The weirdest thing I ate this summer was crawfish.
Alex Milan: The weirdest thing I ate this summer was gator nuggets.
Jessica Negron: The weirdest thing I ate this summer was octopus.
Mary Beth Ramsay: The weirdest thing I ate this summer was mouse and snake.
Maria Salinas: The weirdest thing I ate was Llama meat in Cuzco, Peru.
Hannah Thomson: I actually ate kangaroo.
Amy Bond: I ate tofu sushi. I don’t even like sushi or tofu, but assistant coach Lindsay Koth talked me into trying it. I thought I would venture out and try something new, but it was not a good choice.
Lindsay Koth: I eat a lot on things with tofu – which most people think is weird.
Where was the furthest from home that you went this summer?
Laure Castelain: The furthest I traveled from home was when I played in Sardine in the European Girls’ Team Championship.
Malin Jansson: The furthest I went from home is when I went to school here in Tallahassee.
Carlton Kuhlo: The furthest from home that I went was to Tennessee.
Alex Milan: The furthest away from home I went was to Cleveland, Ohio for my Aunt Kelly’s wedding.
Jessica Negron: The furthest I traveled from home was to Puerto Rico.
Mary Beth Ramsay: The furthest from home I went was Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Maria Salinas: The most distance I went from my home this summer was Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Hannah Thomson: The furthest I went away from home was coming back here to Tallahassee.
What is your favorite memory from the last three months?
Malin Jansson: My favorite memory of this summer was when I got to play the St Andrews Old course.
Carlton Kuhlo: My favorite memory in the last three months was moving out to come to Florida State.
Alex Milan: My favorite memory from the last three months is all the time I spent with friends and family in Ohio.
Jessica Negron: My favorite memory from the last three months was going to all of the different beaches in Puerto Rico.
Mary Beth Ramsay: My favorite memory is a toss-up between watching my sister get married and going to Vietnam.
Hannah Thomson: My favorite memory from the summer was singing with friends in the spa at home in Australia.
Amy Bond: My favorite memory is from Italy. My luggage was lost for four days so I had to go find a clothing store. Finding a clothing store is not as easy as it is here in the US and neither is finding a size clothing that fits. Kelley Hester from Georgia was traveling with me and her bag was lost too. We just had to laugh at all the confusion both on our side and the Italian side because neither one of us spoke any Italian. It was fun using sign language and pointing at what we wanted.
Lindsay Koth: Visiting my family and seeing two of my best friends get married.
What was your most embarrassing summer moment?
Carlton Kuhlo: My most embarrassing moment this summer was walking to the wrong hole during a tournament.
Alex Milan: My most embarrassing summer moment was when I told my dad that the baseball game was going to be rained out. It was at Tropicana Field.
What color do you most often paint your toes?
Laure Castelain: I like red on my toes.
Malin Jansson: After becoming a Seminole I have to say garnet!
Andrea Kaelin: I most often paint my toes red.
Carlton Kuhlo: I most often paint my toes pink.
Alex Milan: I mostly paint my toes teal.
Jessica Negron: I hardly ever paint my toes but when I do it’s usually black.
Mary Beth Ramsay: I paint my toes red most often.
Hannah Thomson: I like to paint my toes magenta.
Amy Bond: Red
Lindsay Koth: The color I like the most is similar to the red/orange crayon color.

Laure Castelain: Hot Dogs

Amy Bond: Depends on the day and time of day. Hot dogs for lunch and hamburgers for dinner.
Lindsay Koth: Hot dogs are a must at baseball games – otherwise it would be hamburgers.
What is your favorite sport to watch?
Laure Castelain: Rugby – but I will see my first football game against Louisiana Monroe and I am very excited.
Malin Jansson: Right now my favorite sport is golf, but when I learn all the rules in Football, I think I will prefer that. I also like

Alex Milan: My favorite sport to watch is college football.

Maria Salinas: No doubt that would be soccer.

Did you fall in love with anyone or anything this summer?
Laure Castelain: I would have to ask my brother if he met some nice girls this summer – I am really curious about that.
Malin Jansson: I think I fell in love with my neighbor’s dog this summer. They just got a little cocker spaniel that I became buddies with.
Andrea Kaelin: I fell in love with a new spaghetti and meatball recipe I cooked.
Carlton Kuhlo: I did not fall in love with anyone or anything this summer.
Alex Milan: No, it was an uneventful summer.
Mary Beth Ramsay: Unfortunately, I did not fall in love this summer.
Maria Salinas: I fell in love with the Mancora Beach that is located in the north of Peru.
Hannah Thomson: The television show – One Tree Hill all over again!
Amy Bond: In love with the fact that I am going to be an aunt for the first time. I’m looking forward to meeting my niece in February.
Lindsay Koth: I fell in love with Captain America this summer.
What did you spend most of summer days doing?
Laure Castelain: I spent most of my summer playing golf, practicing golf or playing in tournaments.
Malin Jansson: I spent my time practicing, working out and enjoying my time in Sweden with my friends and family.
Andrea Kaelin: I spent most of my days over summer working at Southwood Golf Club.
Carlton Kuhlo: I spent most of my summer days playing golf.
Alex Milan: I spent most of my summer days playing golf and spending time with friends.
Jessica Negron: When I was not studying because I was taking summer classes, I was probably sleeping.
Mary Beth Ramsay: I went to Vietnam for a month to teach kids to play sports and speak the English language.
Lindsay Koth: I spent my summer traveling and recruiting.
