Jan. 12, 2004

Tallahassee – Senior Vicky Gill kicked off the 2003-04 season running the fastest 3000m race of her competitive career, becoming the first individual to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships and earning the first ACC Player of the Week honor for the 2004 indoor track and field season.

“We’re obviously very excited for Vicky. Our plan for the season was to compete in an early meet to try and qualify so she could focus on training for the national championships. It’s awesome to come out and be the first individual to not only qualify but better the national qualifying standard,” said first year track and field head coach Bob Braman.

Competing at the Clemson Opener, December 5-6, 2003, Gill won the women’s 3000m event in a time of 9:15.68, shattering her personal best time and Florida State indoor school record of 9:33.18. Gill ran in the race one week after competing in the 2003 NCAA Cross Country National Championships with the FSU women’s team.

During the 2002-03 season, Gill set the indoor record 3K record at the Florida Intercollegiate Championships shattering the 22-year old record by 22 seconds. Gill finished the season ranking third overall in the event.
