Golf Plays At Gary Koch Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State men’s golf team, which is ranked No. 6 by GolfWeek Magazine and No. 9 in the GolfStat rankings, continues its fall season as it travels to play in the Gary Koch Intercollegiate at the Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla., Oct. 3-4. The Seminoles have earned two top five team finishes this fall as they won the championship of the season-opening GolfWeek Conference Challenge and finished in fifth place at the Olympia Fields Invitational. Florida State has a record of 24-4 in its first two events of the season. Following its participation in the Gary Koch Intercollegiate, Florida State will close out the fall season at the Brickyard Intercollegiate (Oct. 10-12) in Macon, Ga.

THE GARY KOCH INVITATIONAL FIELD
No. 6 Florida State is joined by No. 9 North Carolina, No. 10 Florida, No. 16 North Florida, No. 22 Augusta State, No. 27 Auburn, No. 28 Virginia, UAB, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, USF and Texas Tech in the Gary Koch Invitational hosted jointly by the University of Kentucky and Auburn University. The event will be played on the 7,389 yard, Par 72 course at the Old Memorial Golf Club. Florida State most recently played in the Gary Koch Invitational in the fall of 2005.

LAUER PLAYING THE BEST GOLF OF HIS CAREER
Senior Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) earned his career-best finish of tied for third and came within once stoke of tying his career-low score for a single round and his career-low score for 36 holes in leading the Seminoles to a fifth place finish in the team standings at the Olympia Fields Invitational. He enters the Gary Koch Intercollegiate leading the Seminoles with a career-low 71.33 stroke average – nearly three strokes below his average for the first three years of his career. Lauer is a total of +two strokes over par in the first two events of the fall season and a total of +four over par in his last four collegiate events dating to the ACC and NCAA Southeast Regional championship tournaments during the spring of 2009.

FRESHMAN LETSON ENJOYING STELLAR START SEMINOLE CAREER
Freshman Doug Letson (Tampa, Fla.), who will play in his third consecutive tournament at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate, is ranked third on the team with a 72.67 stroke average through the first two events of his collegiate career. He is third on the team with two rounds at par or better and tied for second with five of six rounds scored at 75 or lower. Letson is the only Seminole freshman and one of only three Florida State players who have earned their way into the starting line-up in each of the first three events of the season.

Florida State’s team victory at the GolfWeek Conference Challenge was the first of the season and fifth in the last three seasons under Trey Jones.
