May 20, 2010

WILMINGTON, N.C. –
The Florida State women’s golf team is in a tie for 11th place after the rain delayed completion of the second round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship at the Country Club of Landfall. The Seminoles were one of six teams that had to complete play in the round on Thursday morning after rain halted play on Wednesday night.

The Seminoles will now begin play in the third round at 1:45 p.m. this afternoon and will play with Oklahoma State and Duke. Oklahoma State is tied for ninth in the standings while the Seminoles and Blue Devils are tied for 11th. With the expected completion of the third round on Thursday, the fourth and final round should start as scheduled on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m.

Florida State finished with a 302 team score in the third round and have a 36 hole total of 591. The Seminoles are two strokes from moving back into the top 10, 10 strokes from sliding into the top five and 21 strokes behind Southern California — the overall team leader.

Freshman Jessica Negron (scores of 69 and 76) and sophomore Maria Salinas (scores of 70 and 75) are in a tie foe 18th place in the individual standings with identical scores of 145. Negron finished her second round of play with a bogey and four holes at par to complete her round with a four over par score of 76. Salinas finished with four scores at par to finish with a three over par total of 75.

Salinas and junior Macarena Silva carded team best scores of 75 in the second round while Negron and sophomore Hannah Thomson finished with scores of 76. Thomson is in a tie for 58th place with a two day total of 150 while Silva is in a tie for 71st place with a two day total of 151. Senior Lacey Agnew is in a tie for 114th place heading into the third round.

“Our players really showed their true inner reserve by playing well this morning,” said interim coach Kate Golden. “We have put ourselves in a great position to earn a really strong finish in this event with our play in the first two rounds. These players continue to display their competitive side and we are certain that they will continue to play well when we get back on the course this afternoon.
