Golfer Whitney Wright Sits Down With Seminoles.com

Whitney Wright and her teammates are preparing to play in the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference championship April 18-20 on the Legends Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. In between her practice rounds she sat down with seminoles.com to discuss her career, her strengths and weaknesses and her only career hole in one.

What is your biggest fear?
“My biggest fear is losing a loved one.”

What has been you biggest accomplishment during your Florida State career?
“I think the biggest accomplishment, and the one I am most proud of, has been my transformation to becoming a young adult. I have learned how to live on my own and be independent and that it what I was looking for when I came to Florida State. This (coming to Florida State) was the biggest decision of my life and I know that I made a great decision.”

Why did you choose to attend Florida State
“I chose to come to Florida State for many reasons. Among them are the great weather, the wonderful practice facilities we have at the Florida State University Golf Course and the coaching staff. For me, Florida State is the entire package and has been a wonderful place to go to school, earn my degree and play golf at a high level.”

What is the most memorable team trip? Why?
“The one trip that I cam going to remember most is definitely our trip to Scotland during the summer after my freshmen year. It was awesome experience to have the chance to travel to a place that I had never been before and was amazing to have the opportunity to play all the great and historic courses in Scotland.”

What do you plan to do after college?
“I am turning professional in golf and playing on the Futures Tour.”

Are you a pro at putt-putt golf?
“My little sister always beats me and she doesn’t even play golf!”

What are your personal strengths and weaknesses (on or off the golf course)?
“My personal strength would have to be my outgoing personality and my weakness is trusting others too easily.”

When did you make you last hole-in-one?
I made my first hole in one when I was 12 years old with a four-iron from 130 yrs.

Who are your role models? Why do you consider them to be important in your life?
My role models are people who do anything for a good cause. For example, I really respect people who work in Africa to help children with AIDS, anyone who works to help people in the United States who are underprivileged and all the social workers in the world.

What is your favorite quote?

What is your favorite movie?
Walk the Line

Who is your celebrity crush?
“I have a crush on anybody with really cool tattoos.”

What is your favorite hobby when you are not playing golf?
“I like just hanging out with my friends — going to the grocery store, cooking and watching television (especially American Idol) in my pajamas.”

What is one thing no one knows about you?
“The one thing that people might not know about me is that I have never broke a bone in my body ( knock on wood).”

What is your favorite thing about the game of golf?
“The thing I most enjoy about the game of golf is that is teaches you about life. Everyday is a different day on the course and there will always be barriers that will effect how you play on that day (the wind, rain, layout of the course). On the course you have to just keep your head up and work through everything you encounter. I also like that fact that golf is a game that cannot be mastered. I know that I will always be working for the rest of my life to improve my game in order to become a better golfer.”

What are three words that can describe you?
I would describe myself in three words a spontaneous, loving and Southern.”

What gets you pumped before a round?
“I really get excited knowing that I am going out to represent myself, my family and my school.

If you had $1 million how would you spend it?
“If I had $1 million I would give a lot of it to my family. I would love to help my parents retire and not have to work like they do. I would also buy myself a boat.”

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have one superpower, it would be the power to heal people who are suffering.”

What do you miss most about your childhood?
“The things I miss the most about my childhood are playing in my yard with my neighborhood friends, running around barefoot, jumping on my trampoline and playing capture the flag!!”

Beach or Mountains?
Beach. Definitely.
