TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State sand volleyball team will add former Jacksonville University star Taylor Nyquist to the 2015 roster. Nyquist, a graduate student, will have one year left of eligibility.
“We are thrilled to add Taylor to our team,” head coach Danalee Corso said. “She is a very hard worker with a high volleyball IQ. She brings experience and height that will help our team this year.”
The 6-foot, Dallas, Texas, native transfers from Jacksonville with a 47-17 career record, mostly playing on Court 1 with partner Sammie Strasbaugh as the Dolphins’ No. 1 team. In 2013, Nyquist won the Gold division with Strasbaugh at the Fiesta on Siesta Key Pairs Tournament. She has also earned invitations and competed in the AVCA National Pairs Championships in 2013 and 2014.
“Florida State has a great reputation,” Nyquist said. “Everyone knows of FSU and opponents are intimidated anytime you go up against them. The girls on their team have so much fun while they are playing and the coaches are great. This will get me to where I want to be in the future.”
Corso and the Seminoles know Nyquist well. Although Florida State is undefeated all-time against schools on the East Coast, Nyquist has defeated FSU’s No. 1, 2 and 3 teams in her career.
“What she has done against us is very difficult to do,” Corso said. “Our team knows who she is because of her success against us. The team respects her and she will definitely improve our team.”
Nyquist also played three seasons of indoor volleyball at Jacksonville and helped the Dolphins win the A-Sun regular season and conference tournament championship last year.
A product of the 692 Beach Volleyball club, Nyquist has aspirations of taking her beach volleyball game to the next level. She is currently training this summer in her home state of Texas, and playing in events on the Texas Volleyball Tour. Most recently she finished in fourth-place at a competition in San Antonio, Texas.
Nyquist joins Breana Edwards, Vanessa Friere, Meghan Conway and Tory Paranagua to round out the 2014-15 class.
