OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. –
Florida State University junior Wesley Graham and sophomore Doug Letson shot even par scores of 70 to lead the No. 16 Seminole men’s golf team to a 17 stroke improvement in the second round of the Olympia Fields Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club. In improving their team score by 17 strokes, four of the five Seminole golfers bettered their individual scores in the second round as compared to the first round.

Florida maintained its lead in the team standings and holds a six stroke advantage over Oklahoma State and Augusta State heading into Sunday’s third and final round. The Gators were tied with Augusta State and were six strokes ahead of Oklahoma State and now lead both teams by six strokes. Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State shot a 65 in the second round and is the individual leader heading into the final round. He holds a two stroke lead over Alabama’s Bud Cauley.

Graham (Port Orange, Fla.) finished the round with a solid even par score of 70 – five strokes better than his score of 75 in the first round. He carded 16 holes at par or better with two birdies and only two bogeys. Graham was never more than one stroke over par for the round. He finished the second round with four fewer bogeys than he carded in the first round.

Graham is in a tie for 28th place to lead Florida State in the individual standings.

Letson (Tampa, Fla.) also finished with an even par score of 70 – an improvement of nine strokes as compared to his first round score of 79. He carded a turkey – three consecutive birdies – on his third, fourth and fifth holes of the afternoon to move to three under par and made the turn at two under par. Letson then finished his round with seven consecutive holes at par or better to finish with a 70.

Letson led the way for the Seminoles with a nine stroke improvement (79-70) and was followed by five stroke improvements by Graham (75-70) and Drew Kittleson (78-73) and a three stroke improvement by sophomore Joaquin Lolas (77-74). Junior Brooks Koepka has carded two consecutive scores of 74.

Florida State will play with Northwestern and Alabama in the third and final round beginning Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. (EDT).
