Grisell Earns Academic Honor

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following an outstanding junior season, Dylan Grisell was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-District Men’s At-Large Team for District Four on Thursday.

“Dylan is one of those guys that works incredibly hard on his studies,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He’s an incredibly talented athlete and a very bright student. I am very happy to see him get recognized for his hard work.”

At-Large Teams were selected from eight regions, recognizing the top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom from swimming and diving, golf, wrestling, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, water polo, rifle, gymnastics, fencing and skiing.

First-team Academic All-District honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third teams will be announced later in May.

In the classroom, Grisell is a biology major with a 3.95 grade point average. The Toronto, Ont. native is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member, appearing on the Dean’s List three times and the President’s List twice during his career.

A platform specialist, Grisell became FSU’s first All-American in the event by placing seventh at the 2016 NCAA Championships (366.75) after taking the Zone B crown (789.85) at the regional qualifier. The team captain added a pair of eighth place showings at the ACC Championships both on 3-meter and platform following an ACC Diver of the Week honor for his performance at the Georgia Invite.

“School always comes first,” Grisell said. “I’ve always had a passion for science and I’m extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to purse my academic goals, which entails going to medical school after I graduate, while competing in a sport I love. I am honored to represent FSU both in the pool and in the classroom.”

Grisell will gear up for the 2016 Canadian Olympic Trials, where he will compete on 3-meter and platform, June 11-12 in Scarborough, Ont.
