This week’s GTE Student-Athlete of the Week is Matt Diaz.

Diaz, a sophomore from Lakeland, FL, is the starting rightfielder for the
No. 1-ranked Seminole baseball team. He was named the Sporting News’
Freshman of the Year last season after leading the team in hitting (.390),
homeruns (22) and RBI (84). This season, he leads the team with 12
homeruns and an .822 slugging percentage. He also boasts the second-best
batting average at .426 and RBI total at 42.

The Seminoles are coming off
a sweep of No. 3-ranked North Carolina this weekend and own an impressive
record of 29-3.

In the classroom, Diaz is equally impressive with a GPA of
3.74 in communications. He was named to the ACC Honor Roll in 1998.
