TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Senior Ron Hale scored 24 points and grabbed
seven rebounds to lead Florida State in its first scrimmage of the season
on Saturday afternoon in the Moore Athletic Center Gym. The Seminoles
scrimmaged for three 12-minute periods.
“I think we have made some progress in the first week of practice,”
said FSU head coach Steve Robinson. “I thought we did some nice things at
times today but by no means are we a finished product. I think today was a
good starting point and we can built from here.”
Robinson used several different combinations on both teams during
the three periods. The Gold won the first period, 20-17, and the second
period, 22-18. The Garnet won the final period, 24-18.
Senior Damous Anderson followed Hale with 14 points and five rebounds.
“I thought Ron and Damous did some good things,” said Robinson.
“But again, there is room for improvement. The thing I liked about today
was that the mistakes we made are correctable.”
Sophomore Emanuel Mathis and senior Oliver Simmons were the Florida
State’s other double-figure scorers. Mathis finished with 11 points while
Simmons scored 10.
Freshman Nigel Dixon was FSU’s leading rebounder with nine. He
also scored six points. Freshman Mike Mathews led the Seminoles with four

Conference’s 38th Annual Operation Basketball Media Day on Sunday in
Greensboro, NC. Florida State returns to practice on Monday.
FSU will hold its annual Garnet and Gold Game on Tuesday evening in
the Leon County Civic Center at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.
