TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State’s Sarah Hamilton has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, ACC officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
FSU’s junior ace shares the honors with North Carolina’s Amber Johnson.
Hamilton was spectacular in the circle for the Seminoles (15-2) this past weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Not only did she throw a no-hitter against Hofstra but she followed up that performance less than 24 hours later with a no-hitter against Kent State.
The hitless ballgames marked the fourth and fifth time in her stellar career that Hamilton pitched no-hitters. She is now tied with former Seminole Casey Hunter in FSU history for no-hitters in a career.
Only Jessica van der Linden’s nine no-no’s rank higher in Seminole lore.
Against the Pride on Feb. 27, Hamilton struck out seven batters while issuing only three walks in the 8-0 victory. She then rung up a season-high 14 batters in the `Noles 6-0 win over Kent State.
Over the course of the three-day NFCA Leadoff Classic, Hamilton allowed just three runs on three hits and struck out 31 combined batters.
Tuesday’s announcement marks the third time in her career that Hamilton has garnered ACC Pitcher of the Week accolades. She was tabbed the conference’s pitcher of the year in 2009.
The Seminoles will next be in action on March 5 when they play Eastern Michigan in Boca Raton at the Florida Atlantic University Miken Classic.
