Happy Holidays / Farewell Message

Nov. 20, 2007

Dear Seminoles:

With the holiday season upon us, I felt it an appropriate time for me to reach out to Florida State fans everywhere with a personal message of appreciation for the role you played in the growth of our athletics program during my tenure as Director of Athletics at Florida State University.  You have heard me say, often, that I believed we had the best fan base in the country.  It has been a privilege for me to have served as the Athletics Director at FSU and to have shared the passion of Seminole fans and alumni everywhere.

I will always remain very proud of the shared vision we had for our athletics program over a dozen years ago.  Because of alumni, fans, boosters, faculty, administration, coaches, our student body and our student-athletes, that vision has largely come to fruition.  The memories created throughout that journey will stay with me for a lifetime.

I want to express how thankful my wife, Pam, and I are for the opportunity to have been a part of the Tallahassee community and the Seminole family for these past thirteen years.  I wish the Seminoles much continued success in the years ahead.  I know that every sports program will flourish, whether that means sustaining the level of performance currently being demonstrated, re-establishing an expected level of outstanding performance or continuing to progress on an incline which evidences moving in the right direction.  The goal of comprehensive excellence competitively, academically and in community service is one very worthy of continued focus.

I’ve been blessed to have worked at two wonderful universities during my career in collegiate athletics.  The feeling of a genuine connection and love for those places and people dear to me will never dissipate.  I’ll always have a place in my heart for the Seminoles.

Allow me to state, in closing my holiday and farewell message, that the response to Pam and me from alumni, fans, friends, our community and colleagues within our profession has been extraordinary.  It has been a general reaction of gracious appreciation, compassion and well wishes.  That has certainly been humbling and has given us solace during this time of transition.

Again, I thank each of you for what you mean to Florida State University and for the way Pam and I were taken into the Seminole family.

May God bless you, and yours, during this holiday season and keep you safe, happy and healthy.

                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                        Dave Hart
