TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Incoming student-athlete Stephanie Hartness, who inked her National Letter of Intent to play softball at Florida State last fall, has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association First-Team High School All-American.

The Niceville, Fla., resident who made herself known as an outstanding player at Niceville High ended her recent senior season batting .518 with four home runs, five triples and 36 RBIs from the leadoff position. Hartness is a repeat NFCA High School All-American, earning second-team honors in 2011 after batting .550 while leading her high school to its first-ever state title.

In that junior season, Hartness managed to not strike out in any of her plate appearances. Her nationwide accolade makes her the first NFCA High School All-American to sign with FSU since former player Brittany Joseph signed her NLI to play for the Seminoles in 2007.

Hartness recently was named the All Sports Association/Daily News Big School Softball Player of the Year. She was also honored as the Northwest Florida Player of the Year in 2012, an enormous feat for an area filled with future Division I student-athletes.

The future outfielder for FSU captained her high school squad in her senior year and finishes her illustrious career having led Niceville to three state championship games. Hartness was the Class 6A Softball Player of the Year in 2012 and won the Class 5A Softball Player of the Year following her junior campaign in 2011. She was also one of eight finalists for the 2011-12 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball Award.

Hartness joins a Seminole softball squad that finished 47-16 in 2012, its most wins since going 62-12 in 2004. FSU earned its 13th consecutive bid to the NCAA Regionals, making it one of just 11 Division I softball programs to make the postseason tournament every year since 2000.

The Seminoles finished the year ranked 22nd in the final ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.
