TALLAHASSEE, Fla – The heptathlon/decathlon portion of the FSU
Relays concluded this evening at Mike Long Track. Tyleana Hanner of
UT-Chattanooga held on to her first day lead to win the hepathlon with a
point total of 5,148. James Johnson of Liberty also won after leading
after the first day of the decathlon with a final total of 7,522.
Chinette Johnson placed second (5,068) in the heptathlon and
Shannon Steele was sixth (4,201) for the Lady Seminoles. Darius Jones was
the lone FSU participant in the decathlon and he took third with 7,269
points. Jones’ total is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
More than 50 teams and clubs will visit Tallahassee for Friday’s
and Saturday’s competition. Duke, FAMU, Eastern Michigan, Jacksonville,
UCF, Florida, Michigan, USF, UAB, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky
are among those entered in the meet. Tomorrow’s field events start at 9:00
a.m. and the running events start at 11:30 a.m. while Saturday’s field
events are scheduled for an 10:00 a.m. start and the running events 12:00
noon. Friday’s final race is the women’s 10K at 8:30 p.m. and the FSU
Relays conclude Saturday with the running of the men’s 4x400m relay at 4:55
p.m. Admission is free to the public.
