Brian Hoff can be seen as one of the key motivators and encouragers behind the Florida State Seminoles. Hoff is a 6’6, 195 lb. guard who as a freshman walked on to the Seminoles Basketball program. In addition to being a key motivator Hoff has been given the task as a walk on of being a strong practice player to help push his teammates to the best of their ability.
“This opportunity has been amazing, Hoff states, “I have always dreamed of playing for a school like Florida State and it’s a great feeling to be given this opportunity.”
The privilege to be able to walk on to the Seminoles is one that Hoff will be forever grateful.
Hoff is a person of integrity and loyalty to his Florida State Seminoles. As a senior in high school Hoff turned down scholarship offers from the Citadel and the University of North Florida to walk on at Florida State.
During Hoff’s freshman year as a Seminole he had the privilege of earning the first year academic achievement award which is presented by the coaching staff at the Seminole’s annual honor banquet. One of the key factors of Hoff’s career at Florida State would also include his trip with the team to Trinidad in 2005 to compete in all four of their games overseas.
Hoff was a standout player throughout his high school career including leading his team at Arlington Country Day to a 2005 State Championship in class 2A as a senior. Not only did Hoff lead Arlington Country Day to a State Championship but he also helped in leading them to a record of 28-3 and finished ranked number 7 in the final USA Today Newspaper prep poll. During his senior season he made a school record of eight 3 point shots in a single game in a victory over Florida Prep. Hoff was also a member of the extremely talented AAU team the Miami Tropics. The Tropics are one of the top rated AAU teams in the nation. It is the constant drive to improve his game and better his skills as a player that still drives Hoff to this day.
One of the key things that Hoff continues to notice night after night that still amazes him is the crowds that come to support the Noles.
Hoff says this of the large fan base: “It’s amazing. High school is nothing like this. There is nothing really to compare it to. It’s an amazing feeling when you make a shot and the crowd goes crazy.”
Brian states that his motivation comes from the teams accomplishments because he knows that he had a part in their success.
“When we win I always feel like I have a little part in it because I push those guys everyday in practice and hopefully one day I will be out there,” says Hoff.
It is this encouraging attitude and will to drive his team mates that make Hoff one of the key motivators on the Seminole team.
Throughout his ride at Florida State Hoff states that one of his biggest accomplishments would be his confidence as a player.
“My confidence has really grown since freshman year so I’m playing a lot better than I was my freshman year and I think that is because of the increase in my confidence.”
It is the confidence that Hoff possesses that he hopes will help drive the Seminoles to the NCAA basketball tournament.
