Holton Highlights Summer Action

TALLAHASSEE – Rising junior Tyler Holton, a 2017 first team All-American, helped lead Team USA to a 15-5 record this summer against Japan, Cuba, and Chinese Taipei. Jackson Lueck played for the red, white, and blue against Chinese Taipei, and this was the second consecutive year that Florida State had a pair of players chip in for Team USA (Taylor Walls and Cole Sands in 2016).

Holton made four starts for Team USA, including the July 4 game against Cuba, a 5-0 Team USA win. Holton threw four scoreless innings against the Cubans, allowing three hits and striking out three.

In total, 10 returning Seminoles played baseball this summer.

Nick Derr, INF, Newport Gulls (NECBL)
Nick Derr has played 20 games for the Gulls, hitting .156 with four RBI and two runs scored in 64 at-bats. Derr added 11 walks and seven stolen bases.

J.C. Flowers, OF, Newport Gulls (NECBL)
Rising sophomore J.C. Flowers is hitting .283 with three doubles and a home run for the Gulls. He has three RBI and three doubles in 53 at-bats.

Jared Herron, C/OF, Danbury Westerners (NECBL)
After redshirting at Florida State this year, Herron is hitting .162 for the Westerners, with a pair of doubles, four runs scored and an RBI in 37 at-bats. Herron has added five walks.

Tyler Holton, Team USA
Holton made four starts for the Team USA Collegiate National Team, going 2-0 with a 0.69 earned run average. The 2017 All-American allowed 11 hits in 13.0 innings while striking out 14 against just two walks.

Clayton Kwiatkowski, LHP, Charlottesville (Valley)
Kwiatkowski appeared in four games for the Charlottesville Tom Sox, notching one save and 10 strikeouts in 5.0 innings. In three of his four appearances, he pitched one inning of scoreless baseball and struck out two batters in each game.

Jackson Lueck, Team USA
Lueck played for Team USA in the series against Chinese Taipei, hitting two singles in four at-bats. The rising junior also had a pair of walks and finished with a .714 on-base percentage in limited action.

Drew Mendoza, INF, Y-D Red Sox (Cape Cod)
Mendoza hit .189 with 14 hits for the Red Sox. The rising sophomore had eight RBI, including four on his lone home run of the season.

Ronnie Ramirez, RHP, Palm Beach Snowbirds (CLPB)
Ramirez is 2-2 with a 2.13 earned run average in nine games for the Snowbirds, with three starts. The sophomore has 20 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched. At the plate, Ramirez is 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Cole Sands, RHP, Falmouth Commodores (Cape Cod)
Pitching primarily out of the bullpen, Sands went 1-0 over 17.0 innings for the Commodores. The junior struck out 21 hitters and allowed just four walks in securing a 3.71 earned run average.

Ed Voyles, RHP, Brookhaven Bucks (Sunbelt)
Voyles has a 0.00 ERA in 12.2 innings for the Bucks and has a 1-0 record in 12.2 innings pitched. The redshirt senior has allowed just three runs, all unearned, and struck out 20 in six appearances (one start).
