TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Juniors Tyler Holton and Cal Raleigh were both named Collegiate Baseball preseason All-Americans Tuesday morning. Holton is a first-team pitcher and designated hitter, while Raleigh is a second-team catcher.
Holton enters 2018 after a standout sophomore season, finishing with a 10-3 record, 2.34 earned run average and 144 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched. Holton is expected to lead a deep Seminole pitching staff that returns all three weekend starters from a College World Series team in 2017.
Holton was a first-team All-American and All-ACC performer in 2017.
Raleigh was a 2016 freshman All-American and has 19 home runs through his first two seasons. The Cullowhee, N.C., native also has 32 doubles, a pair of triples and 89 runs batted in while starting 131 of 132 games played.
Florida State opens its season February 16, 2018, at home against Xavier.
Noles open season fourth in Collegiate Baseball poll
Coming off a 46-23 season, a College World Series appearance and a sixth-place finish in 2017, Florida State opens the season at No. 4 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. FSU is the highest-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference program, followed by North Carolina (7), Clemson (15), Virginia (16), Miami (20), Louisville (21), NC State (23) and Georgia Tech (29).
