TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, Florida State women’s tennis head coach Jennifer Hyde has been selected to lead the girls’ Florida U18 Sectional team in the USTA Team Championship taking place from Sunday, July 30 through Wednesday, August 3 in Claremont, Calif.
“I’m very excited to once again coach the USTA Florida section in this important annual event,” Hyde said. “The USTA team championship is a big deal for these young ladies, and there is an opportunity for new champions to emerge each year. I’m honored to have been chosen to help make that happen and I’m excited to get to work with these young ladies throughout the week –our goal is to bring the USTA Team Championship home to our Florida section.”
Last season, the Hyde-led Team Florida began the tournament seeded seventh, only play to play into an impressive fourth-place finish in the event.
Hyde, the Seminoles’ all-time wins leader, enters her 14th season as the Florida State head coach. Under Hyde, FSU has reached 10 NCAA tournaments while reaching the ACC Tournament final twice. She was named the South Region ITA Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2011.
The USTA 18 and Under Girls Team Championships comprise one of the strongest field of players in the country. The USTA is broken into 17 sections, and each section sends a team of six or seven players to the Claremont Tennis Club to participate in college-style play. The prestigious event regularly includes the top high-school aged players in the country.
