Hyde Wins ITA Southeast Region Coach of the Year; Seminoles ITA Community Outreach Award

TEMPE, Ariz. – As announced by the ITA Monday morning the Seminoles were winners of two ITA Regional Awards. Head coach Jennifer Hyde was named Southeast Region Coach of the Year and the team was honored with ITA Community Service Award.

Hyde earned Southeast Region Coach of the year after leading the Seminoles to a historic 21-win season that saw the Seminoles make it to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history. Florida State recorded the second most wins in school history behind only the 1982 team that went 23-17. Hyde coached two All-ACC team members, sophomore Carla Touly (first team) and freshman Petra Hule (second team), and one student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Singles championship (Touly). Hyde also led the Seminoles to two wins over the Gators in the same season. The first win came in front of the largest crowd in the history of women’s college tennis and the second in Gainesville to advance to the Sweet 16.

The Florida State women’s tennis team earned the ITA Community Outreach Award for their excellence in community service. Throughout the year the Seminoles recorded 241.5 service hours through numerous activities. This spring the Seminoles, along with the Student Veterans Center on Campus, unveiled the new Scott Speicher memorial in front of the tennis center that displays his name. Along with their continued effort to reach out to the veteran community at Florida State, the Seminoles have focused their efforts on growing the tennis community in Tallahassee. Outside of tennis, the women’s tennis team participated in literacy week and the adopt-a-street program. The Seminoles’ 241.5 service hours this year are good for the third most at Florida State.

Touly will begin play in the NCAA Singles Championship starting this Wednesday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
