In 25 Words Or Less ….. With Senior Golfer Carrie Sordel

May 19, 2004

We put senior golfer Carrie Sordel in the hot seat as asked for her answers to five burning questions ranging from golf to superstitions to her beloved Chicago Cubs.

The hardest hole I have ever played was…No. 8 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort because it brings back so many bad memories from the 2004 East Regional. It is a very tough hole to play and it is a very tough mentally to approach and play. I was five-over combined on that hole at the regional and I was six over for the entire tournament.

My favorite all-time golfer is…I have a lot of favorites and I don’t know if I have any one favorite golfer. If I had to choose I would day Tom Lehman because he reminds me of my dad. He seems like a really nice person.

My biggest superstition is…My grandmother knitted me a very colorful hat and I always were it to Seminole football and basketball games for good luck – whenever I have worn it to a game, we have won the game. On the golf course I use a 1965 quarter to mark my balls. But, I try to stay away from superstitions as much as I can.

The team to watch out for the NCAA Championships is…Florida State because we are coming around and we just finished fourth at the East Regional where we knocked out both Florida and Auburn who were both ranked in the top 15. To be able to finish above both of those teams was special. I think we are going to finish in the top 10 at the National Championship. Our team chemistry is great, were are all working together and rooting each other on and we have four players who have played at nationals during their career. This is the last tournament for three of us and I think we are going to put everything we have into playing well.

The Chicago Cubs will win the World Series because…They will win because they have Greg Maddux, Mark Prior, Carlos Zambrano, and Matt Clement – they have all the pitching that they need and there offense is coming around. They have Sammy Sosa and Moises Alou. The fans are behind them all the way.
