In-State Showdown With The Gators Just Days Away

Nov. 21, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla.Thanksgiving is just a day away and that means the Seminoles and Gators are nearing their showdown in The Swamp. The Seminoles spent 20 periods preparing for the 12th-ranked Gators Wednesday. Florida State is trying to close out a brutal November schedule with a win, which would give FSU an impressive 3-1 record and wins over two top 15 teams. The Seminoles will hold a short practice Thursday and then enjoy Thanksgiving together as a team. The squad departs Friday afternoon.

Cornerback Tony Carter

On if he will be ready to go on Saturday:

“I expect to play unless something happens between now and Saturday.  My plans are to be playing on Saturday.”

On his injuries and it being a tough couple weeks for him:

“It’s been filled with ups and downs.  They happen for a reason. You just have to fight through it, go out there and help the team get a win.”

On what’s striking about Florida‘s receivers:

“They are very athletic, fast guys; they pretty much have the total package.  They have some short, speedy guys and some big, physical guys.  Then they have those guys that can catch the ball in traffic with a good quarterback delivering the ball.  You can’t focus on just one guy because they have so many weapons.”

On if the Gators receiving corps will be the best the Seminoles have faced this season:

“Yeah, probably so; maybe Alabama too.  They had some pretty good receivers.”

On the importance of winning this game to build on the momentum for the future:

“It would definitely give us momentum.  We haven’t beaten the Gators for three years now, so a win would definitely make a statement and let everyone know that we are for real.  We beat Boston College when they were ranked No. 2 and this is another chance for us to go up against another ranked opponent.”
