TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Three of the top 25 programs and two of the
top 15 individual golfers in the nation will participate in the inaugural
Dodge ACC/SEC Invitational Shootout at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
from Sept. 29-Oct. 1. The event is being hosted by the Florida State
University women’s golf team and is one of the showcase events being played
at Sandestin this year.
This one-of-a-kind event will match four teams from the Atlantic
Coast Conference (plus Furman and Miami) against six teams from the
Southeastern Conference in a 54 hole, winner earns conference-bragging
rights tournament. The tournament will be played on the Robert Trent
Jones, Jr., designed Raven Golf Club at Sandestin.
The format will use the lowest four scores of the six teams to
arrive at a daily total. The final three day totals will determine the
individual, team and conference champion. A beautifully handcrafted
challenge cup will be presented to the champion which will be housed at the
winning conference’s office.

Auburn, the reigning SEC champion, highlight the 12-team field. The Demon
Deacons, who finished 17th at the NCAA championship tournament last season,
are led by Marta Prieto. Prieto finished third at the NCAA championship
last season and is currently ranked 18th in the nation. Auburn finished
sixth at the 2000 NCAA championship tournament and is led by Celeste Troche
who is currently ranked 10th in the nation.
The Dodge ACC/SEC Invitational Shootout is the feature event of
Florida State’s Fall golf schedule. Led by 19th-year head coach Debbie
Dillman, the Seminoles finished ahead of six nationally ranked teams at the
recently completed NCAA Fall Preview tournament at Howie-In-The Hills, Fla.
