ATHENS, Ga. – No. 38 sophomore Aziz Dougaz fell by the score of 6-3, 6-4 to Texas’ No. 55 Yuya Ito in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Down a set in the match, Dougaz was at deuce point tied 2-2 looking to take the lead in the second set, but was unable to do so. Dougaz would drop the second set and match at 6-4.
Dougaz finishes the 2017 spring season with an 11-10 singles record after making his first-career individual NCAA tournament appearance. His dual match season included five wins over the No. 2, 10, 63, 67, and 109 ranked singles players in the nation as he reached a personal best of No. 38 nationally.
Dougaz’s participation the in the tournament marked the third consecutive season that Florida State has played in the NCAA Singles Championship, following former standouts Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez’s consecutive appearances each of the previous two seasons.
