Guy Iradukunda, a sophomore at Seminole State College in Oklahoma that has signed with the Seminoles for next season, was named the Junior College National Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition to being named the top player at the JUCO level, Iradukunda won the Flight One singles and doubles championships in leading Seminole State to a second-place finish at the NJCAA national tournament last week.
Entering the tournament, Iradukunda was 32-5 on the year and the top-ranked player at the JUCO level. He won the 2015 regional singles and doubles championship while at Seminole State and was ranked in the top four nationally his entire time. Iradukunda signed with the Seminoles in November and will join FSU for the 2016-17 season.
2016-17 Recruiting Class Ranked Eighth
Iradukunda is part of a four-man recruiting class that ranks eighth nationally as announced by TennisRecruiting.net Monday afternoon. In addition to Iradukunda, the top junior college player, FSU will welcome Lucas Poullain of France, Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar of Norway and Alex Knaff of Luxembourg.
Poullain is a 14.46 ranking on the Universal Tennis Ranking, which puts him 16thamong current college players. Bhullar is the fifth-ranked player in Norway, while Knaff is a Davis Cup player for Luxembourg.
The four are expected to join the Seminoles in August and replace three seniors while looking to lead FSU to the NCAA Tournament for an ACC-best 15th-consecutive season.
