Jansson Leads Women’s Golf

NEW ORLEANS, La. (seminoles.com) –
Florida State junior Malin Jansson shot a one over par score of 73 and is in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings and the Seminoles women’s golf team is in 10th place in the team standings at the AllState Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at the English Turn Golf and Country. Jansson is within four strokes of the individual lead with two rounds remaining to be played.

No. 4 ranked Southern California, with two players in the top 10 of the individual standings, is in first place in the team standings with a two stroke lead over Oregon. Cali Hipp of Oregon is in first place in the individual standings with a one stroke lead over Lisa McCloskey of Southern Cal. Hipp shot a three under par 69 over the course of the first 18 holes.

Jansson played a nearly flawless round with 16 of her 18 holes played at par or better with one birdie. She began her round with five consecutive even par holes before a bogey on the par five 15th hole. From then until the end of the round, Jansson played even par golf with one birdie, one bogey and 10 holes at par.

Jansson’s score of 73 was her second best score of the early spring season for the first-year Florida State player. She shot a 71 in the first round of the spring season opening Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. After finishing in a tie for 42nd place at the Northrop Grumman, she is looking to earn her highest finish of the spring season.

Freshman Laure Castelain shot a two over par score of 74 and is in a tie for 14th place in the individual standings. She led the team with five birdies during the round and played her best golf of the round over her final seven holes – she was two under par with four birdies and one hole scored at par to finish at two over par. Castelain was as many as four strokes over par before closing with a flurry at the end of the round.

Senior Maria Salinas finished with a three over par score of 75 and is in a tie for 27th place. She carded two birdies during the round including one on her final hole to move to within three strokes of par.

Florida State will play the second of three rounds on Monday.
